could they be raised with chickens? As in could I rig cages for them to hang inside my chicken run? I've seen this done with rabbits and chickens, there's no interaction between the animals it's just making better use of the space.

I love the idea of stacking meat sources this way and I'm sure my husband would be far less likely to object :) As it is I have ducks on the side of the house, chickens 'round back and quail on my front porch.

Well, my two cents is pigeons would be happier with just their own kind, or with quiet animals like rabbits, than with noisier animals like chickens and ducks. I let my chickens into the pigeon area from time to time to clean up spilled feed, and even then it's carefully monitored to keep the chickens from flying up on the pigeon cages and freaking them out.

I fell I have to make a correction. My Texan Pioneers used to be set up with milk crate nest. Each area had boards blocking off the nesting area. I have found that I made some nest boxes out of wood with no area dividers and they are working well.

The key is to have all the nest boxes the same. The harmony is better in the loft because everyone has the same kind of nest. And they don't have a blocked off area to defend. The nest are four inches off the ground so the young squab can hide under them. Had a adoption happen since I did this set up. I recommend it for squabing birds.
