Can chickens lay eggs at night !!

When mine started laying, most of them laid their first eggs right around 7pm. Then nothing for several days or even a week. Then they kind of self-regulated themselves and now they lay in the morning. But sometimes, since it takes about 26 hours for the egg cycle, one or two will lay in the early afternoon and then skip a day. I found a new egg last night around dusk. Now I’m wondering if I have a new layer! My 3 layers had already laid an egg each yesterday and then one younger chicken was acting oddly and making a lot of noise. And when I looked in the coop, there was a soft shelled egg in the hay! I thought the younger birds were too young but I am uncertain about one birds age..maybe she is older than I thought..
