2 wk chick - won't lift head, twisted neck **12-1 Update - All BETTER!

I'm glad to hear she is doing better too. Personally, I doubt an injury would correct itself within a day on vitamins...I'd go with vitamin deficiency (could be from many factors outside our control, including malabsorption issues). Regardless, it's great to hear she's well. Good job!

Got home from teaching class this evening and she's still doing pretty good - still a bit crooked in the head, but can hold it up and is eating and drinking like a champ.

She does have a 'spell' every once in a while - like if she is startled, she'll put her head down and walk backwards in a circle, but only if startled.

I am hopeful she will make a decent recovery...

Just a quick update - chick is basically back to normal today. Holding her head up well, and only a slight tremor or spasm when she gets startled.

I'm so glad! Thanks again for all the well wishes and information.

its greatto hear your chick made such a great recovery,
because maybe you could help, when i let the chickens out this morning, i found that i was missing one, cha chi too, shes a favorite of mine, and then i found her neck was all, croocked, shes having diffculty eating, well, its so bad im feeding her by opening her beack and the trying to get her to swallow, but it was only an overnight thing, was your overnight too? im gonna give her another day MAYBE but other wise its the chop for her sadly, shes only young, and she was the only one that ran up to me and let me hold her, and she allready had croocked feet and a bitless of a flying abilyity compared to the rest, so what did you do? cus she cant even walk, shes that bad, her head is independant of everything else...

Hi,

We have an almost 3 week old Buff Orpington chick. Last week, we noticed that her neck was drooping to the side - she would kind of wobble her head up, and then it would tilt or drop to the side. We isolated her because we weren't sure what was wrong - we knew she was getting picked on by our other chicks and not getting enough to eat. So now we have her separated, but the condition is worsening. Can Buff Orpingtons get "crooknecK?" Also, I went to the pharmacy and was told I needed a prescription for Polyvisol vitamins - is this true?

She is managing to eat and drink a little off and on, when she can get her head straight. Mostly it is twisted around almost 360 degrees, and she does do a lot of backing up and moving in to a corner.

I am posting pictures. If any one can give me some ideas as to how to diagnose her problem, and what I can do to help her, I would really appreciate it!
