What time do you let your hens out of the coop?

I let mine out first thing in the morning and only one is laying on top of the hay stack.
The smart ones go back and lay in their nest boxes they know thats where the food is. Nothing like a drink of water and a snack after laying a egg.

Mine have either gone stealth or just quit laying and are on strike. I was getting 3 brown eggs every few days and one of the Dominiques was laying about every 4 days... I have 7 hens and two are not mature enough yet to lay but should soon. Egg laying was happening in the hen house. I have one wine crate turned into a nest box and they seem to like it. But, now my nest box continues to be empty and I have looked high and low in the hay stack and "around" even followed a hen or two with no luck.. It has crossed my mind that I must look pretty silly stalking a chicken

During the week they are in their hen house w/yard attached. It's about 12 x 16 feet so they have play room and can come and go from the hen house at will. They get turned out by either my husband or son around 2 to 3 pm and put themselves to bed by 6:30pm. I go out and count beaks and lock up for the night.

If I am home in the morning, then not until about 9:30 AM are they let outside into the run. If I am working, then I let them out just before i have to go...sometimes sadly early

If it is the weekend, then closer to 10:30 AM. We dont want to wake the neighbors...

They have the run all day tho, so they go and out as they choose. Just we worry if we let them out too early, the coons are still more likely to be out, and we have neighbors that need sleep...

older people you know, and that is our deal with them that we wont let the girls out first thing.

It works for us....this way they eat their feed, and they know when we let them out they get the treats for the day. Also when the two adults are laying, they tended to do it before we let them out. I often wondered if they knew....lay eggs first and then go play lol

I let mine out around 7:00am, they have a run and are freeranged when I'm home, but ocasionally I find an egg outside, or an egg hanging out on the floor of the coop when someone was cross-legged with the need to lay an egg lol.
