Pennsylvania!! Unite!!

If I read the paperwork right, you can get birds from anywhere as long as they are quarantined until tested. You may want to check on that. I know that's how Ohio does it but I know each state differs.

That is where the state steps in and Nan said to call her and she will work with us to get through if someone isnt, but she also said just dont make it a common practice :(

I just had to have my vet come back out last month to certify 4 turkeys I had gotten after she was here in June. I lost my slate tom to the heat wave the end of July so picked up a new tom at a swap & a trio of palms locally. I had to quarantine them until she could make it over to test them.

Awwww! I love them all! Is that one a boy? My last litter of springers two where always fighting with that status! they have finally reached 20lbs and then are almost 4 months now. Nothing beats pups, at least if you can tolerate all that poo!!

how did momma do? no issues with retained placentas? My Maddy girl retains almost all of them, I need to research this as the running to vet for Oxy is a major pain! But she could die if I didnt give her shots afterwards. I may join a forum for that and see what info I can pull.
We had 7 boys and 3 girls. And mom is doing great! and she is still taking care of all that pooo!

She deliveried some of the pups with them and some she didnt. I was a bad mom and fell asleep at like 2 or 3. She had all her pups but I was waiting for her to pass the rest. I cleaned and changed everything and when I woke up there was a soaked mess again so I am assuming she did. I called the vet and they said just to keep an eye on her and to make sure she was eating and drinking okay. And that if everything else went okay that she probably passed them though the night. The pups are two weeks today. She seems fine eating and drinking and back to herself when shes not playing mommy. So i would assume shes fine. If she hadnt I would think she would be really sick by now.

Quote: I think Wing needs to byepass all this BS and head straight for her Butcher Licensing! I am fairly sure that would cover all her avenues!

10 bucks is right! and so many 4Hers need birds tested but havent resourses.

AND BTW you can never have ONE GOAT! you at least need two and then you need a backup and yeahhhh I am correct! LOL

can you not get your own cpt in ohio Silky?

Sally, that is kind of my goal,,,I have plenty of local people who can come in an test for me when needed, even though I am not after npip I have thought about routine testing just for my own state of mind......maybe after the move you can come visit for the day an do some testing....

so now, who is coming over to buy some processed meat????

then you need to research that direction. And I wish you were closer or I had more cash on hand for a one stop shop, but I dont YET! I am praying at some point these chickens at least pay for feed and then a little extra sure would be nice to add for milk and bread! so frustrating! Chickens are THE most unpredictable things! No wonder we eat them!

IT is very similar,,just slow go because the equipment is pricey........like I said earlier, I run into problems when the differences overlap,,,seems each animal has different guidelines at times....then finding info on rabbits is mind boggling an differs each time you talk to someone..

it will be years before I am ready to go after that commercial license..

An this is going to sound just terrible, but I like processing....there is a great feeling when everything on the dinner table from the meat to the wheat in the bread came from your own property instead of the store..

might take a bashing for that one but I have perfected my routine an can clean many birds in short time...
Hey..you will get "NO" bashing from me. Grew up hunting/fishing and I come from a VERY long line of PA dutch/Mennonite farmers,,,mostly dairy, but you KNOW they have everything..pigs,chickens...GOATS!

...I always enjoyed butchering deer/game after we harvested, no way they were going somewhere else to be processed!..not that is anything wrong with that..just like to do it ourselves..knowing the who, what, where & hows of all food is important , especially today.
Anything worth while takes time..you will get there..are there large differences between "butcher" licence and commercial?..or are they one & the same? I am very ignorant to these things, obviously.

****No wonder we eat them....BWAHAHAHAHA!

I have referred to this in the past as to what I need..

to comply with chicken processing is simple, then for some reason something like rabbit has a new set of rules.....weird but I have sold rabbit as live weight an offered free butchering, keep it legal has loopholes...

I really do not understand alot of it (I am just a country hick) ...wish I could just simply get 1 license to cover everything and still keep it small off the farm sales
