Anybody else go out & check on their animals? I couldn't sleep... Wind is howling thru tv tower near us & wooden deck keeps cracking like a gun. I had locked the ducks & geese in the shed earlier & couldn't hear their usual evening chit chat..... So, I went out & checked on them.... All ok, so far! Its a balmy 3* here according to our thermometer.

Not sure what happened with my quotes so not sure who was asking now but here goes:

City Ordinance: When I lived in town I called the Clerk of Courts and asked which office I needed to ask a quedtion about the City Ordinances. They gave me the number to the correct office & I called them. They gave me the website to look it up & even told me which page it was listed on when I told them what I needed. They gave me time to read it & go over any questions I had. I made sure all my coops & everything were legal. Saved a lot of headaches later. Your local Clerk of Courts should be able to point you in the right direction.

Birds inside due to the cold:
We haven't gotten pens set back up for the bunnies, calls & banties yet so they are in the garage. Everyone else, 2 goats, 6 turkeys, 2 geese, 7 anconas & 19 chickens are in the bottom section of the 8x10 shed. It's block walls & wood door. They stayed pretty toasty in there yesterday so that is where they shall remain. As soon as I get a tarp over the top of the roof that is missing the chickens & turkeys will move into the top of the shed. Also planning a small night box for the goats. Then everyone will be settled in until I can get fences up. No coddling for anyone but the babies around here. The 5 chicks & the little pullet with frostbite are the only ones with heat right now. My kitties are in the garage but there is only a tiny space heater out there to keep pipes from freezing. 1 of the silly kittens decided to take advantage of the brooder lamp & laid next to it on top of the brooder. Apparently he got too close because his fur is singed on his left rear hip. Silly cat!

I have the need to get a chicken/ & possible Dog Breeding website up, anyone into that sorta stuff?  I am pretty good with the puter stuff but a website not sure on how to link it up for traffic and such.  And lack of budget is an issue. so a fairly cheap site that has the opportunity to link up with other search engines and stuff...  thoughts are appreciated!

I meant to answer this last night....nope. I am not the one for this job...I have not figured out Pintrest yet, maybe Danielle's daughter can teach me...

Galgo, everyone was ok last night, I've got a few who roost on top of the coop who I am a bit concerned about, I haven't gone out yet...

LMP, your hubby's got a point, I find myself having to think that way a lot. I knew the 2 x 2 pop door was open on the back coop which is why I went out to close it up and everyone was fine.

have fun!! Stay warm...

**Reading about Marek's..umm, yeah...not pretty.

I have some goodish ones of the Mediterraneans, and the best two birds in the show. I'll get them on sometime soon.

Well, it bottomed out at -14* here at 0600, currently is -13*. DH swapped out the waterers then. Birds look OK on camera so not willing to go out to open the man door to check on them because I don't want to cause a blast of cold air any more than I absolutely have to. I will wait till late morning water swap. Broody and babies are sitting tight in their hut.

Sally:

Building a small web site is not all that difficult, but you will need to learn HTML.....it might be easier to do the Facebook/Pin interest thing ( I don't do either). SEO, Search Engine Optimization is very complicated but is well document on the web.

this information on Mareks............well it has made me decide to ditch the mealworm container...

just doesn't seem worth it and it has taken a long long time and all I have are beetles.......

If this occurs in dust................I wonder if any dust is an issue.

If that is the case...........well not sure if there is an action plan other than

cleaning out the coop more frequently.............all the bedding.

I don't do all the bedding out in the winter............

In the summer I was doing that and using a vinegar water spray mix on the floor roosts.......

No matter what we do...........there will always be diseases around for humans and animals in the world

we just have to make reasonable and informed decisions.

so........I am ditching the meal worms for now........there are enough other food options.
that was my thoughts after reading them as well, mine all went in the garbage just after they started filling the entire container. stinks but why chance it, and people get Mareks more than we know because most do not go and say I have disease in their flock.
