see right through it
I cant because I use the serama area for grow out too, so I dont trust other chicks growing out to be around babies, especially the HRIR and the WFBS, they seem to pick on the littles. : ( and I keep the shed door open on the serama coop it has no screen and we have a neighbors cat take his walks right in front of the door, should he see chicks they are done, its too hot to keep it closed, plus I like them getting fresh air if its not pouring cats and dogs outside
all the grow out pens are filled right now, I have two chicks that the others were picking on in the one grow out pen, I guess I could try adding them back to their group and see what happens. or slowly add a few from that pen to them, idk. lol
I have visions of a nice clean straight row of breeding pens with plenty of room for separation, but that takes money and I dont have any :( chickens are eating me out of house, I may have to sell some off because feed is nuts right now. We processed some roosters as you know, but I just dont have the heart to do hens. and of course the oldest hens are the ones the kids and I have named and welll you get the idea. I could do the younger ones but not the old ones go figure! Why do I feel so different about a hen vs a roo!!! I cant keep letting them age and live their lives out, we have about 6 freeloaders right now! But I refuse to keep doing all the feed for freeloaders, plus they seem to be the noisy bossy hens too!
If you can give her a quiet corner in the coop for while she is setting she will cooperate with a move to another area after the hatch... we have done this with a few of the broodies. Some just will not move when on eggs, but once they have chicks they don't seem to care at all. A medium sized pet carrier would work.
