I do know, after having them around for a few days.... Curious George should have been a duckling, not a monkey! It is like trying to keep track of a herd of 2 year olds! Everything goes in their beaks! :barnie

They really did enjoy the outside. I hate that I have been moving them around so much in such a short time, but they are dealing with it. I think it is better out there anyway. They have more room (which they need more than ever!

) and the sounds of the coop are more predictable than the sounds of the television, the vacuum. A smoke alarm on occasion (burgers on the stove seem to set it off every time!). Of course, having other ducks around is a good thing too. The ducklings are supposed to find their voices as early as this week.

Wq, welcome to the thread, and BYC!
I'm in Clearfield county. I have a Pekin pair (no fertile eggs at this time) and supposedly (pretty sure) six Pekin ducklings. I will be posting on here when I am sure of the sexes, and someone else will get first dibs on any extra females. However, you're up next!
The conditions do sound gross. My coops are far from perfect, but I don't think that they would make one's skin crawl. I trust the toddler in there.
You seem to be well-versed in the difference between a male and a female. Trust that.

Thank you.

I think I'm going to cry! Those are beautiful photos, and it is insane that they are my birds! I am going to steal your photos, and share them on other threads. I am also going to see if I can find my camera. Sometimes I forget that a real camera does a much better job than a cell phone. Of course, I don't have your skill or your awesome camera.

I have a few more pictures yet, I need to figure out how to send them to you, they are mostly just variations of the ones I posted for you....obviously I am happy to hear you like them enough to share them on the other threads, so steal away and I will try to figure out how to send you the originals.

I am on my way to Erie right now to move our boat...getting to be that time of year, will be opening camp in a few weeks! :celebrate

Okay, then! I opened one of the gates to change the water for the ducklings. I left the gate open, but shut the run door to be sure no one went into bother them. I apparently wasn't thinking, because I have had one of them follow me around the house before. In the minute or two it took to fill the water, they were all in the run. My drake looked at them through the fence, but I knew that he wasn't a threat because he saw them yesterday and ran from them and they came close ( yes, I know you knew that already). I finally opened the run door to put the water into the brooding area. The ducklings quickly ran outside, and one jumped into the water bowl I keep out there for the adult ducks. It was quite funny to see the pair of adult ducks inspect the babies, and not want much to do with them. It was downright hysterical when I was tossing out scratch, and all of the 23 chickens came running. The ducklings ran after the chickens, and the chickens run away scared! :lau
I eventually shooed the ducklings into the run (after adding their big bowl of water and a brick for a step), and shut the run door. I seriously don't know what to do now. I have the option of closing the ducklings into the lower section of the coop which has its own run. Now, that worked for the adult ducks getting to know the chickens, but they don't really see each other. The biggest obstacle I face is that the ducklings do not know to heed the warnings of the elders. While they were locked into the run, a car slammed on its brakes. Everybody went running for the lilac bush because the rooster told them to. The ducklings did not react at all. More important, the ducklings not bonding with the adults, means that they might wander off, and get into trouble.
So, what do you guys think I should do about the ducklings? I was not expecting them to be so adventurous for some reason.
