Pennsylvania!! Unite!!

One of our two boys (Brewster) is a black sex link opps....I laughed when the teenager at tractor supply swore that no one EVER came back to say they had gotten a male while buying 'pullets'. Just because people don't come back and complain, doesn't mean they didn't accidentally end up with a roo!
He is beautiful, but when giving an extra roo away to friends who needed a replacement, I wouldn't pass him along due to how nasty he can be.

Our other (Sarge) is what I like to call an Amish Farm Red. He looks like a RIR, but he came from an Amish farm and I can't imagine many Amish farmers worrying about pure bred lines with chickens. He is also agressive.

They came at me when my back was turned as a pair today. They backed off quicker then they used to, but I was swatting at them with a rake.

My husband said the other day that he thinks we should keep them for 'entertainment' value. I immediately said no. We have 7 and 9 year old boys and I will be outside all summer in the garden. I am not kneeling down in the garden to weed and worrying about a rooster flogging me at the same time!

If you were closer, I'd recommend replacing them with one of my extra roos. They are gorgeous and large, but they like people and don't view them as competitors.

I have a young red roo out there right now, probably 12 or so weeks old who is very friendly. Of course, he's still growing but he's been sweet since he hatched. He's RIR x BCM. His daddy (RIR) was from the bin of red "pullets" at TSC. He's also not aggressive. Not very friendly or social either though...

Yikes, better do something about them. I hope you have another kind rooster for your hens. There' no room for the meanies!

It's sad that roosters tend to be aggressive. They get culled all the time because of that. Why can't they just all get along and share girls and realize humans are wonderful beings who feed and protect them?!

I'm thinking of taking the minimum of RIR from Tractor Supply, (3 I think?) and just raise them in the house for as long as I can so that they are very used to me and my kids. Then hopefully one will end up being our lap dog that we want and we'll keep that one. Then hopefully I'll be done with the stress of balancing out my flock to be what I want.

I'm not one to give second chances to roosters. I have a gorgeous Partridge Orpington rooster, he's a sweetheart, breaks up fights with his ladies and never, ever takes a run at us. I will be hanging on to him, but he throws beautiful babies.

much better looker than the one standing on the roost.....just look at that color....

All:

For my two cents, I have never had an aggressive rooster.....I always have treats with me when they are out and they've always been more interested in goodies....also, I do always take a dominant stance and make them give way....so, nobody has given me a hard time...maybe I'm just lucky.....
