Pennsylvania!! Unite!!

He is a handsome guy and definitely looks like Australorp. I've met some nice Australorp 'roos. Good luck in placing him. I am still looking for a home for my Delaware cockerel--he is a nice guy (so far) too--but if he crows, I will be in big trouble with my neighbors and the borough!
Thank you and good luck to you!

Today was a brooder shifting day. Some older chicks were moved out to the main coop, all brooders were cleaned and chicks rearranged based on their size. In a few days, another group will go outside. I think I have one more hatch due this week of chicken eggs then that should be it (besides the brahma eggs that are coming in the mail this week). All that's left are a few turkey hatches then I'm done for the season. Turkey fertility has been awful this year but I think my toms have been knocking each other off the hens before completing the deed. I have to remedy that for next year. Here are some pictures of the cool penciled poults that hatched this year, Phil and Lil.

No, I understand there are wonderful roosters and I’ve read many posts and articles about roosters and I’ve been torn about placing him but he does go after my younger ones if they are close to him. We keep a snow shovel by so we can be protected because if not he will rush my younger ones if they come near him. I know he thinks he’s protecting his girls but I don’t want my kids to be hurt and I overall feel it would be better to find another home for him.
If he makes any aggressive move toward a person, better to get rid of him. I have never had success reforming a bad roo, but I have so many nice ones, it doesn't matter for me. I used to think there was some genetic basis, and there could be, but I just killed a really mean roo last weekend and his sons are wonderful, to the very last one. He just got too "uppity" and could not be changed. He attacked one time too many and now he is an "ex-rooster". I don't feel the least bit bad about killing him, it was inevitable.

I also had a beautiful rooster who started with running at my nephew. It developed to charging me and my dad. I wouldn’t go in the pen with out a stick. If he saw any opportunity he was at me. He would also charge me at the fence when I was outside. He got made into soup. His son has been fantastic. He is a year old and has NEVER made a move towards me. I was leery about choosing him or another that hatched with him. But his mom was one of my legbars that died and he obviously got her demeanor.

Yes, this is how he is, sounds like the same situation.

So, IDK if anyone saw my post with a baby bird... I put him back in the tree and he was reunited with his mama. My hubby found another nest, this time it was in my grandpa's fire pit - luckily it didn't catch on fire! It was upside down, and so I fed the babies and tried leaving them outside so the mama could find them, but it got dark after 3 hours and no sign of mama. I now have them in the house and I'm feeding them cut up worms every hour. I plan on releasing them when they can fly, and I hope I'm doing all the right things so they can survive. Does anyone here have experience with baby birds? IDK if they are robins or some sort of house sparrow.
