I can’t believe it, but that broody broke. I didn’t look last night, but she’s been out since yesterday afternoon. Then again, do you remember the girl that didn’t stay until she had chicks last year? It might be her. I won’t be giving her chicks unless she parks like a normal broody.

Yep, remember one being flakey. We have had the "commitment shy" hens once in a while. We usually make sure to pair scatterbrained broodies with dependable ones, then if she flakes out the dependable one just continues on by herself and the chicks are still tended.

The first group of Adam's children hatched, 4 out of 4, and no lavender ones. So the odds should be that 1 out of 4 should be lavenders, mating two splits. So far I have hatched 11 (across 3 different hatches) and only 1 has been lavender. Could the lavenders be less hardy/early quitters?

Meanwhile none of my spitzhauben have pipped, on day 21. They were put in at the same time as my other eggs that hatched.
