Happy July 4th everyone! I have been missing in action since my house fire. You think it won't happen to you? I NEVER thought it would happen to me. I had the best brooder set up ever--in my second bedroom --a rabbit cage on top of a dog crate with the heat lamp on top. The room was locked. I loved it! The babies kept me company while I folded laundry and were SO socialized! We were outside with the dogs,seeding the lawn . My son got hot and went inside. After 5 miutes, he realized that the noise he heard was the smoke detector. Lost three rooms . Our 5 Cats hid together under a sofa, dogs were outside with us. I still don't know what happened, but it was the heat lamp. I will NEVER do a heat lamp again. Looking forward to visiting Dennis soon.

What a horrible thing to have happen. Glad you and the kids are OK, I can only imagine the mess you are dealing with. :hugs

Oh my goodness! I'm so thankful that you are all ok! What a terrible thing to happen! I ditched the last of my heat lamps and replaced them with heat plates last year. Hear lamps are so popular but so very dangerous. I'd have never believed it at first but there are so many stories like this every year. I'm so sorry that this happened to you!

It is ok for the livestock auctions to sell random poultry, but not have a swap where you could record all the sellers on a signup sheet? Government officials often don't think things through, so I should not be surprised . . .

I agree, it's extremely stupid. My boss was really frustrated with the lady she spoke with. She was very excited for this swap to happen too.
