LOL YAY someone else with bright walls!!! But mine all make my house look even smaller and darker lol!
oh hows she get in?

Well....someone, and I'm not going to name names....well, OK, it was me, tends to leave the door open while getting food and water and such for the animals. Here she is on a different day, this time, I didn't know she was inside and had been there for 2 or 3 hours. Yup, we were finding chicken poo on the strangest places. These leghorns are just curious, had a contractor call us once when she was in his truck and he couldn't get her out.

Ray, do you ever use a broody for them? The best hatch rates I've gotten are under broody hens. These are Marans that you're discussing? I've got 12 in the bator now and am a bit nervous. 12 SHIPPED eggs.

Get your rest Sally,,, take care of yourself first !

Let nature play it's hand,,,, check on it / them later,,,, you've been through it before,,, and you've done well !

You know you'll probably be spending enough time on the entire bunch soon enough.

Take care,,, off to bed here,,,, tomorrow is day 18 for my batch,,,, and let the games begin !

Hey Blarney,

actually I have had better success rates than the broodies have had,,,, that last one hatched one out of 12,,, these Marans can be tough, interesting enough, Gavalina explained that most of the Marans people use the "dry hatch" method more often.

Next round, I may try it,,,, the air sack gets larger and the chicks seems to stay smaller and they come out on their own,,, helping them out is such a long, nerve racking process.

I have 3 in now,,, the other 9 didn't develop,,,, shipped from Indiana,,,, replacement eggs on their way. Glutten for punishment...LOL

WAIT you dont do dry hatch?

You may want to read up on assisting hatches before the time comes. It's a long process,, but, I've had very good luck helping them, I'm sure I've had to help more than half,,, the chicks are always to big to move around in the egg to come out on their own.

Sally has a link on her page that has some good info. I was self taught,,,, not fun at all.
