Pilgrim Geese

Yep. I just got my Pilgrim eggs on Monday from Illinois. And I have been told the cpg's in Florida are already done for the year. Amazing what a few hundred miles can do for laying season.
Yep. mine started later this year than last but last year they started mating in Mid Jan laid first egg Jan 31st this year it was up into Feb before mating started and end of Feb before first egg. Last year laying was over end of May, have no idea this year. Where are the pics of your new geese?

Read that Pilgrim Geese are calm--worth noting in light of all the recent posts and grow fast---anyone have experience raising these? Are they good foragers? How do they compare with Toulouse regarding rate of growth and foraging ability?
This is my first year raising pilgrim geese. I bought them from someone on Craigslist. I had one gander and one female, something took my female early, at around 6 months. I go to buy 2 more females, those two are over a year old and the gander had mated them. They are nice to have around, messy, but not aggressive at all. I can not hold them but a brief pet from time to time, it seems as if when asleep they don't mind being petted. They love to forage, and I would keep an eye on plants you want to keep. They get along with everyone, like all my chickens. I have 2 roosters, and my gander will grab ahold of a rooster's tail if provoked. During the breeding season ( like right now ) my gender and my females get protective and want nothing to do with any other farm animal. Hissing is what they do to ward off almost everything, I've never had any of them bite me ( I hear it hurts ). The growth rate comparison I'm afraid I can't help you with the I have never had Toulouse but my pilgrims grew very very fast.
