I put up our Christmas tree (not decorated yet) and our 6 mos old kitten, Gilbert, keeps scaling it!! I have pulled him out numerous times, but a few minutes later up he goes! It is a prelit tree, so I can't sqirt him with water. Any ideas??

The only way to keep him from climbing it is ti put the tree in a room that you can close the door on.
Well, now I have a reason for not getting a pre lit tree. I know our other cats went up the real trees, but I never had that problem with the artificial trees. Have to agree with Rooster Red on this one.

Yes, he's very cute in the tree! I took a couple of pictures, and I wish my camera was working right, I'd post one. I haven't usd tinsel for years. (I once was walking my dog, and she had tinsel hanging out of "you-know-where" and pulled it out GROSS!)
As for putting it in a room with a door, I have an old farmhouse with stucco walls and arched doorways. The only rooms with doors are the bed and bathrooms.
He may just have to live in the garage for a month. I hate it, but he is a very determined little kitty. I might just keep the breakable decorations off (50-75%) and go with a more natural theme. I wonder what he would do to a string of popcorn and cranberries!)

I am having the same dilemma this year. We have not put our tree up yet, and here's why.....
We had two cats last year who pretty much left the tree alone. Right before Halloween, some lowlife dumped three little kittens in the middle of nowhere, which we ended up taking in "just til we could find them homes." They quickly won us over and became our's permanently. They are hellions though. They are into EVERYTHING. Now, it takes a long time for us to put our tree up (we get a real one), and I can see it coming down in less time than it takes us to put it up! I can see them climbing it and using the ornaments as their own private toy stash. No one is home during the day, so that rules out the option of trying to "train" them to stay away from the tree. And closing the door on our living room is not an option-there is no door. So.....am not sure what to do. 5 cats and a Christmas tree make for disaster I'm afraid. I may just end up getting a smaller one and putting it up on top of the cedar chest. At least that way, it will be a smaller mess to clean up. But I LOVE a large, beautiful tree! Has always been my tradition with the kids, so it kind of saddens me. So if anyone has any suggestions, I, too, would welcome them.

My cats are all grown now, but when they were kittens they all took their turn at the tree. It seemed like after awhile they got used to it and pretty much left it alone.
This won't help with the problem, but maybe it will make you feel better!
