My rant for the day...>:-(

(It's a shame I already have to use this smiley!)

Before I relate this, just let me say that both of my parents were the youngest of their siblings, so I grew up around a lot of elderly people, and was taught to respect them. I have no problem with elderly people in general. There is, however, the occasional Senior Citizen I'd love to beat the h*ll out of! I guess for some, arrogance comes with the point in life where they just don't give a rat's hiney about what people think -- not that it's a bad thing, but it is when they abuse that privilege.

It was pouring down today, and I had to get gas. I pull up under the portico by the pump and discover I have a river of water between it and my car, and I'm wearing sandals. So I'm trying to balance myself on the raised concrete part the pump is on to pump my gas, when this elderly man pulls up real slow behind my car to use the next pump over. As I'm standing there watching him, he slowly eases up behind my car further and further until his license plate is literally pushing in my bumper. Then he parks it! When he opens his door to get out, I asked him to please pull back, he's squashing my bumper. Instead of "sorry" or "oops", I get a grumpy "That's what they're there for!"

I was too amazed by his rudeness to say anything but thank you when he backed up 6 inches.

He then proceeds to grumble as he's getting out of his car about how the pumps are blocked off. Excuse me? I don't think so! His big honking car was well under the portico, and in easy reach of the gas pump. I ignored him and thought about how I'd just gotten my front bumper repainted 6 mos. ago when some pawpaw in a little truck backed into it at the PO when my hubby was driving it. If my DH hadn't seen him do it, he would have driven off and left me with my insurance paying for it. After I drove off, the more I thought about it, the madder I got.

I seriously thought about backing into his bumper and seeing if I could set his airbags off.

OK Bliss, calm down, I didnt think I was that close!

I feel your pain! Humans can be the rudest most self absorbed species on earth sometimes!

To hear folks my parents age tell it, things are much worse now than they were 50 years ago. The lack of personal responsibilty these days is alarming.

I've been known to come back with an insult to his precious mother with, "Boy, your mama didn't teach you any manners, did she?!" That goes over like a lead balloon, but they don't know what to say.

This old man must have been in his 70's. He had a nice new car. You would think he'd be more careful with it, but I guess because it was his license plate scraping MY paint, he didn't give a d*mn. For the record, I could not see any damage done, but that wasn't the point.

I don't blame you Bliss...I don't think I would have been even THAT nice to him...and I too grew up with lots of older folks...

My favourite one happened just last year. They were repaving the parking lot out front of the store...This old fart parks right in front of the doors and gets out with his old fart wife...Now, right in front of the store is a "Fire Lane", not an old fart park here lane...So of course he gets a ticket...A few days later he comes roaring into the store and DEMANDS that WE pay his ticket...My manager was like, NO, you shouldn't have parked in the fire lane. The old fart was like Yes I did. My wife can't walk that far, blah blah, blah... He was basically too lazy to drop off old fart wife, find a spot and get the car when they were done...I was rolling on the floor at the fact that he wanted us to pay his ticket...

I would have called the police, after all, he did hit your car.
I know that when the police came all they would do is mediate, but it would give the old fart something to think about and let him know that he can't treat other peoples property just any way he chooses.
