Flax seed?

We have always fed ours flax..we eat it and pretty much our chickens eat the same type of food we do..
They don't lay any less..unless mine would lay twice in one day instead of once

I also feed ours kelp for the minerals that is only found in kelp and hemp for a yummy protein boost when needed.
Unless flax is ground you won't get the most benefit from it but chickens have gizzards and grind it themselves so you don't need to grind it for them.
If you want to know how much Omega is in your eggs you can have the eggs tested. But yes...you should be eating it directly as well

I do eat it... I sprinkle it on a lot of different things... Where do you get kelp? I live in a small town, but we do have a great organic food market here, would I possibly be able to find it there? Thanks!

I usuall buy my Flax at Krogers, but a local health food store is having a sale on different stuff right now so I got a couple boxes of milled/ground(whatever it was) Flax really cheap. Ended up buying bulgar wheat(milled), Flax, oats, raw pumpkin seeds, and other grains(can't remember all of them now, threw away the boxes/bags) and made the girls a nice mixture for a treat in a couple one gal ziplocks. Also added a bit of DE to the first bag I started giving them to help the pumpkin seeds for Fall worming... They love it! Had to end up mixing with their feed though cause they liked the fresh mix better, this way they get the benefits of both.

I just purhased some organic flax seed at the warehouse in city near where I live. How much and how often for 3 month old SILKIES?

I add flax ground up in my mix. I dont use the whole because they dont grind it all.You can see it in their poop. So i use the ground stuff. You can go for every 20 pounds add 1 cup. I wouldnt go to much more than that it can be hard on their liver. soo be carefull. Or you can go 2 teaspoon per hen per day.

I have been trying to find flax seed in my area for a few weeks now.
No one seems to stock it, They can get it but it will come in a 50lb bag
for about a dollar a pound. I don't really need 50lbs.
