We have always fed ours flax..we eat it and pretty much our chickens eat the same type of food we do..
They don't lay any less..unless mine would lay twice in one day instead of once
I also feed ours kelp for the minerals that is only found in kelp and hemp for a yummy protein boost when needed.
Unless flax is ground you won't get the most benefit from it but chickens have gizzards and grind it themselves so you don't need to grind it for them.
If you want to know how much Omega is in your eggs you can have the eggs tested.But yes...you should be eating it directly as well
