Hey Now....
I just received the Welp Hatchery pricing list and they have listed a "Dark RIR". I looked into their website but the pic they have appears as if they are black. they describe it as having a considerably darker plumage than a RIR. I really like the color of some of the RIR's i've seen here on BYC that are a deep mahogany . Is that what they would consider a "Dark RIR"? Has anyone ever ordered any of these?
if so, could you post pics of yours...? thanx...

I've saw those too and they do look black but I think that may just be the lighting when the pic was taken.

I plan to get some of these from Pine Grove, this is what good, heritage, pure dark mohagany RIRs should look like. William has bred them for 20 years and now has one of the US's top show lines.

These are NOT hatchery birds but they are my rose comb RIR's. I just was gonna show you their color. It is really hard to take a pic and it truly represent their colors because they turn out black or green.

Wow..!!!!! Thats exactly what i'm looking for....
Years ago my uncle had RIR's but they were much lighter. more like a NH Red.
Pine Grove..? I'm sorry i'm still a lil green at this. is that a hatchery or some one that's a member here?
thanx for the wicked fast response...

Yes Pine Grove (William Bennett) is a member on here. I've heard great things about him. I think he's giving his girls a break to molt, but he's in Lakeland, Ga. and he sells and ships eggs and (I'm pretty sure) chicks too. He's kinda hard to contact by PM, he still hasn't answered my last one. Give me a second and I'm PM you his phone #.

I have three of those hens. They are not only super dark, but they are also HUGE ladies, fully half again as large as my hatchery RIR. Hatched them from BamaChicken before she got out of that breed.
