Where does the heat lamp go????? I hope they are easy to clean up LOL! How many chicks and what age do they can fit in there?

The heat lamp goes in the top. I use a 100 watt infrared bulb with a dimmer.

I think a dozen would live in the double box comfortably for a month, maybe six weeks. That's when I usually move mine to my big brooder that is out in the coop. My first hatch I only had two in the larger box (pictured above before I added to it) for a month and they had plenty or room to run around. Right now I have the 7 that hatched last weekend and they are having lots of fun playing musical boxes. They go in one for a while and take a nap under the heat lamp. Then they run races back and forth for a while through the tunnel. Then they go take a nap under the heat lamp in the other box. At least they are getting lots of exercise!

I was wondering if Jim Pollard still had birds or not. He used to be working on cuckoo fav bantams. Of course that was back 10 or more years ago. Now I know.

Peter, such a enlighting story LOLOLOL! You were definately flying by the seat of your pants that time when Dick brought some eggs over LOL! Dick was a very nice gentleman and he did created beautiful colors. What I adore are the Mahogany Faverolle pullet colors and the whites, which was fairly NEW to me since Gayle Poutious had them at one time. I am pleased that someone is working on the white Fav bantams. All I saw were the LF. Dick and I lost contact a few years back and the club was on shaky ground when I was a member and was not happy with what I was getting out of the club...sort of cliche' if you get my meaning. Now Lisa is taking over, I am thinking about re joining the membership.

So Britboi was the primary descendent for the US Faverolles in this country? If so, he was ONE busy boy!

I do not know how the hatchery got a hold of Faverolles in the first place, it probably woudl be one of the contracted buyers.

Are you planning on importing more "new" blood in the US? Or would Henry's flock be sufficient to keep it going? (I am sure he would be going for many years to come LOL).

I have someone I am probably getting eggs from that says their birds are descendants of birds from britan. I am not sure if I will add anymore lines to the mix though so don't know if I will be getting those eggs. I should be able to keep my flock going for the years I am in college or if I cannot I will give them to a responsible breeder who will give me back some of the original stock in a few years but I think my Mom has agreed to maintain 15 hens and 2 or 3 cockerals for a few years. Then hopefully I will move to a farm and start more serious breedings in both LF and bantam. I want to start with a diverse flock even if it does cause some unwanted traits to pop us because I know people have done alot of inbreeding even if they where trying to line breed their birds. I would love to keep a good sized flock of LF and a good sized flock of bantams but I decided to focus on Bantam becasue I have a good start in them already and only have 8 LF chicks. I hope to be able to keep a trio of LF though or maybe just a few hens for larger eating eggs.

I see at least two whites Henry... I can't remember, did you have me take out the Mahogony hens for your eggs? If not then if you have a Mahogony she will have a darker neck ring... when feathers start coming in she will have darker primary feathers too... some people mistake this for a cockerel. Whites have white wing tips at hatch and very light chick down. My white recessives showed up when I added the two hens from Pontius last year. I love them. Of course the Blue Salmons are easy to spot once they start to feather.

Fingers, toes, paws and hooves crossed at the farm for you to have pullets galore!

It is fun to see the size difference in the bantam and standard, can't wait for pics of the tiny ones.

I have a trio of Favs that are only a couple of generations removed from birds brought over from Belgium. They are very lovely, hope you have some of those. I think I am about to put a dozen eggs up in the auction... or in the 'bator... can't decide... I'm hatching Ducks right now (first time ever) and don't want to try to do something else at the same time. Then I need to get some Ameraucana in there... Paul Smith just told me he does not think that the Wheaten /Blue Wheaten have a very long laying life and most of mine are 3 + years old.
