How much are you paying for layer pellets?

cjpines, I am finishing up some Nutrena right now, but I will try to remember to let you know what happens. I was just down near the goat pen and saw a large "puncture vine" growing by a moringa tree. I pulled it out of the ground (carefully) and threw it in the chicken yard. There was soon a clutch of chickens around the plant doing in its small yellow flowers and the seven-pointed seeds. Things are so dry here in Central California, I am having a rough time finding greens for the chickens. Yesterday they got melon rinds along with grass. Today it will be lettuce (somewhat aged) and grass. I do add lots of Purslane to the mix and the birds love it and fight the ducks for the succulent green; lots of Omega-3 fatty acids in Purslane and it is the only thing that is really abounding around here; every pot has Purslane in the greenery.
 
I pay about $33-35 for a 40# bag of Scratch and Peck Organic whole seed feed with NO corn or soy. In Portland Oregon.
 
Jacksson15 I feel ya I live in S CA and there haven't been greens for the chicken in awhile
Cant wait for the rain to start to get things growing but remember Halloween is coming up and that means a lot of pumpkins being thrown away so what I do is ask for everyone's left over jack o lanterns that arnt rotten and I im thinking of give my customers a slight discount for bringing me there pumpkins after Halloween

This is late to reply. Calif in drought has been hard for us to grow greens, so I go to Grocery Outlet and buy kale, chard and collards. They have the best prices and plenty of it. Try your farmer's markets trow away bins for left over veggies.
