I didn't *see* a place for introductions....not meaning it's not there, but I'm kinda slow that way, lol! If this is in the wrong place, feel free to move it, mods

My name is Dawn, and I'm addicted to chickens

I live on almost 10 acres in southeast South Dakota with my husband of 7 years, and our 3 boys, Isaiah, Austin and Gabriel. My youngest son Gabe has Cerebral Palsy, and I just discovered chickens last spring; they keep me sane and entertained, lol! I just love going out to do chores, and just hanging around in the coop to watch my gals (and guys)

I started out with 13 chicks from our local farm supply store; turned out to have Buff Brahmas, two buff hens of some still unknown breed, and 1 speckled Sussex hen. I successfully raised all of them up, and they made it till about July, when a Coyote ripped through the chickenwire on the windows in the coop, overnight. I have 7 left, along with my late summer order of Ameracaunas, White Rocks, Golden Spangled Hamburgs, and Light Brahmas.

I already have another order in to Welp's Hatchery, and I'm already looking forward to bringing the livestock tanks down to my basement, and setting everything up again

Right now I'm on the hunt for a pair of Sebastopol Geese, maybe some Muscovy ducks...and later on, several Guineas. I'd also like to try Peafowl, once I get everyone else settled in. We also have two horses, and two dogs.

Sorry this got so long...I am long winded when it comes to typing up my stories, lol! I look forward to talking to other chicken crazy people!

I'm just about to send some hatching eggs to SD! Welcome to BYC! We have some of the same breeds and I have a Barred Rock cockerel, understudy to his father Hawkeye, named Gabriel, who is just 10 weeks old.

Hi Catalina

Hi Speckledhen; send some eggs this way, lol! No, I've been itching to try hatching some of my eggs lately, but I don't have an incubator yet. Especially today, when I went to gather eggs, and the majority of them were still warm! I guess if I wouldn't have done this next chick order, I could have gotten an incubator instead, lol!

Thanks Kate! Sounds like a wonderful idea, lol!
