Araucana thread anyone?

I want to incubate a small batch of Araucana eggs. Does anyone have any Araucana specific advice on doing that? I'm asking because the hatch rate seems to be pretty low with Araucana.
I had the same thing happen when I started raising Araucana... Because they don't have a tail bone, and lots of butt fluff, breeding is a challenge for these birds. It helps a whole lot of you trim the fluff immediately around the vent and any cushion/saddle feathers that may block the vent area.

I hope to get araucana eggs next week! I want tufted araucanas and everyone here I know have clean faced. a friend of mine went to bulgaria and ordered some eggs from there. I hope they are available now.

btw clean face araucanas have better hatching rate. if both hen and roo have thick tufts the hatching rate is very low. chicks die in shell.

I encourage people to have both tufted and cf Araucana in the flock...are tufted difficult to get in your area? Where are you?

Yes! 25% fatality rate with tufts right out the gate. It’s one reason why my broody hatch rate was so high. I love the tufts, but only have 3 Araucanas with them. My goal is 2 breeding flocks- one with a tufted roo and cf hens and the second flock the opposite. Because of there short backs, I’ll keep a few tailed Araucanas as well- genetic diversity is SO important for a healthy flock and if people only breed tufted, the breed will self eliminate. Good luck with your Bulgarian eggs.

It's tufted bred to tufted that produce that ¼ lethal ratio. Tufted to clean face don't
