RM44, I'm glad to hear you followed through with it.

The chicken flapping is normal.

I'm glad you still have 23 chicks! I hope you enjoy them!

We've broken chicken necks and then taken the heads off. I don't think they'd drain as well, but they didn't taste different to me!

Some rather thoughtless person has put a young cockerel in with my 3 chooks. I live in a suburban street albeit on Magnetic Island, Queensland.
We have a fairly good message board system for the island on facebook and I have had no replies from anyone interested in taking him off my hands.
The cock has to go. My husband has called him Groit - Get rid of it.
He's not fully grown yet. I'm favouring the broomstick approach. It sounds the least likely to go wrong and I certainly don't want this to go wrong.
Does the broomstick sound like a good idea?
Will there be a lot of blood left on the concrete slab?
Thanks in advance.
Audrey

Maybe, if you pull the head right off.......if you just break its neck shouldn't be any blood at all.

I use the broomstick. I put mine on the lawn, on a flat spot. Sometimes I pull hard enough that there will be separation of head from body. But, usually that's not an issue. I find this method to be much less stressful for me than using a knife, and I don't have the dexterity for an axe.
