HELP PLEASE.
My splash hen's crop is impacted.
This is the 2nd day.
A couple of weeks ago I put wheat straw in the run and now I think she may have eaten some.
I feed Purina pellets, cracked corn,a hand full of rye grass a few times/week. Occasionally, safe table scraps and fresh spinach.

Today, I followed the advice I found on BYC and turned her upside down. massaging crop.
-A few drops of brown liquid came out (no smell).
-I gave her a 4 drops of mineral oil.
-She's isolated from food.
This is what poop looks like.

What should I do next?
Should I give more mineral oil or start with acv OR WHAT?

Try feeding her a large tablespoon of warm butter and massage her crop. She'll love it. If that doesn't work try to give her olive oil. Good Luck!

I am so sorry your hen is going thru this.
I have one hen that has been my "problem" chicken.
I have had to do crop surgery on her twice.
The first time, I massaged her crop several times a day (for several days) and gave her oil with a syringe.
I tried to feed her soft food like yogurt but she would not eat it.
She got so weak that I finally decided to do the surgery on her. It was harder on me than
her. (I read everything I could find on the internet about the surgery).
She had hay (from the floor of the coop) and grass knotted up in her crop. She apparently picked whole strands of grass
when she free ranged. The second time was a few months later.
I massaged and gave her oil again.
I was afraid to try to get her to empty her crop.
There should be others on here that can give you better advice on how to treat her.
Hope she does okay.
If you do need to do the surgery, I will be glad to tell you how I did it.

So sorry you're going thru this. Have you taken her food away at night and checked her in the morning to make sure that she's impacted? I have a few that pig out first thing in the morning and go around all day looking like they're almost deformed. If you're sure it's impacted crop try giving her bread soaked in olive oil. She should eat it right up and hopefully that will get things moving. If that doesn't work do a search her for crop surgery. Someone (I think it was Ruth) had a great thread on it with step-by-step instructions AND pictures. Best of luck with her!!

She is still impacted.
I got home late from work, so she was already on the roost.
In the morning, I'll try hanging her upside down/massaging. Then I'll feed her more olive oil and butter.

Keep us updated. I'll look tomorrow (later today, I guess) for the thread I mentioned earlier--too tired tonight. I Love it when I hear things like, "I need 4-dozen snickerdoodles for the Valentine's Day party tomorrow--as I'm doing the dinner dishes.

I'm just playing around on the puter while the cookies bake and trying to stay awake.

I just read a thread here on BYC on how 2-3 cc's of wine given orally to the bird will fix this. Do a search on Red wine and you will find it. Another person tried it and said it worked

Post #9 and onward --here is the link https://www.backyardchickens.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=284227

I
know this is gonna sound crazy but it will work --- take a 3cc syringe (take the needle of -you're not gonna use it) pull up about 2-3cc of wine and give it to your bird orally and she should be ok tomorrow .(any cheap wine is OK) The wine gets rid of all the bad stuff - in other words it blows it out .
I know a lot of people will laugh at this and make jokes about it but it will work

Be careful when giving it to her .... go slow giving her time to swallow it and not get any in her windpipe .

If you have any worrys about this then don't use it .
