I became interested in the bread awhile back and after much looking was able to have a "Black" trio sent to me from Minnesota. I also have an order placed at Superior Farms in Oklahoma for 2doz. Black Java eggs. They should be here soon, I hope...

I got my 1st Black Java egg yesterday! WooHoo

Even though I'm not real happy with the starter stock I got from MN at least they have started producing.

My starter stock from MN @ about 6 weeks

Thank you they also have a little white on the tips of a wing feather or two not to sure how much that hurts.
They're still young so I'm not sure what they should weigh at this point but look like they should hit the average adult weight ok.

Thank you so much...
I have searched on here many times for Java threads but did not see those. I'm glad to find more folks interested in the bread. I hope to get my stock up to standards someday & have some good Black Java eggs & chicks available. It's not going to be easy but that's what I like about it.

I had a terrible time finding Java eggs last year. I finally hatched out three sets and with my luck I only had 3 black hens out of almost 30 hatchlings. Only me. Now I can't wait for the weather to change and longer days so they will start laying eggs.

the white tips on the wings is absolutely normal at their age. all mine are pure BJ from a flock closed for 40 years, and they have them, and pete from the garfield museum project says the same thing about whitew wing tips as juveniles.

i have a breeding quartet and recently got a bunch of BJ babies out of them. i was even more excited to see one of my BJs go broody at exactly one year of age. her chicks from the bator were already 5 weeks but i gave her some FCBMs which was what i had access to as day olds. anyway i had read that broodiness is higher than average in BJs and she is the first of a big flock of many varieties to go broody at my place. she is doing a fantastic job btw.

you can click this link yo see a slideshow of my adult birds.

i ADORE their personalities, b/c compared to my other varieties (of 6 wk old chicks) they are much calmer and nicer than the FCBMs and (most of the ) EEs.
