How to get a hen to set

I put a few plastic Easter eggs in the nest. Mother Nature's way is to not collect the eggs. She will get the idea.

Yes I put golf balls in the nest.
Golf balls and fake eggs work well to get them to lay their eggs in the nest box, but if you're trying to get her to go broody it won't help. They go broody when they feel like it and there is nothing you can do to make them. If you have a broody breed you may be able to encourage her a bit, but it's still hit or miss.
You can try to push her rear end down as you are saying sit, give her a treat if she does it.
From what I understand hens go broody because of hormones. They pretty much do it when they do it, if they ever do it. If you do a search I think you will find a thread on an old time way to make a hen go broody, something about putting her in a dark box for a week or two, or something like that. I wish you luck

I did a little searching, this was the one I read a while back.
I found this great post on here about forcing a brood. Here's what it said. Beautiful bird, I just love frizzles!

Yes! This method was featured in Backyard Poultry magazine.
And I actually will be trying this in the spring and I'm hoping to get either one of my buff orps and barred rock to do this! Good luck!
