Hello, I too am from Ottawa! Glad to see there are people from my area. More specifically I was wondering if any of you use DE and if you do where do you buy it? also do any of you have lice problems in your chickens? we rescued four and now have to learn how to treat them perferrably with something safe as we have two children under a year old...thanks in advance for your help!
Hello "Adorable" I just signed to BYC a couple of days ago, located close to Perth Ontario. Don't have any chickens yet but planning for next year. Look forward to it. Can't decide on the right breed of layers for our climate or where I can get just a half doz. or so. Any suggestions.
Hello trunkster..welcome! we just got chickens this year and man we are learning a lot. There is minimum order i think it is 9 and you pay shipping which is always about $13. The chickens themselves are only a couple bucks each depending if you want day olds or olders ones ready to lay. we have got two sets now...at first we got dual purpose day olds, they seem to be taking a long time to have any size and wont start laying until mid-aug. Just about the time we wanted to put some in the freezer. So we have since got meat birds. You can order form most feed stores however we found Wool growers in Carleton place to be very helpful. They order from Freys hatchery. Good luck! and have fun!
Ovrez, thank you for the warm welcome. I bought from Fry's many moons ago, nice to see they're still in business. I so look forward to getting some laying hens this spring. I'll be checking out the place in CP. Thanks again.
