they look like sticktight fleas (Echidnophaga gallinacea) they will attach to cats, dogs, chickens--- and people. You need to treat all of your birds & check other pets as well. Frontline spray will kill them, as will flea shampoo. Powders won't work as well as they are attached like ticks. Tweeze off any that do not die with your treatment. Avoid the eyes, and use a cotton ball to apply the spray around the eyes and nares.
Thank you so much mypicklebird! We didn't know if they were fleas or mites, now we know they are sticktight fleas (they sure do stick tight!) We've tried seven dust and DE, didn't work. We used dog flea shampoo today. We didn't realize how bad it was until we bathed them. We're going to try the Frontline Spray. Thanks again!
