I bit the bullet...

Now that sounds really good!!!!
We've had snow on the ground - in patches since december sometime, its melted part way - (read ICE)

I thought this weekend would give the FINAL melt - the predictions were to be around 44 today (that was Thursdays prediction) unfortunalty that all changed, and we've not gone over 34....

I used the fencing that you can buy at Home Depot or Lowes. Its the black plastic with the posts already stapled to it. I think they use it to stop runoff along the roadsides. Anyway, its pretty cheap and very easy to use. And the chickens respect it. The deer do not.

For those of you who go into garden withdrawl during the winter, Aero-Grow has a great hydroponics set up. They can be counter top or they have a stand that hooks on the wall. I have the double unit. They are compact and nice looking. And quiet! Once you set it up, all you have to do is take the little plastic dome off the pods when they sprout and then just put in nutrients every 2 weeks (a light flashes to tell you when) and add water when it gets low (light again) and raise the adjustable light when the plants get too close to it.
You can grow a lot of different things. You can grow and harvest veggies, herbs and greens or use it to start seedlings indoors. There is even a kit for using you rown seeds instead of the packaged sets they have. I use them to grow salad, & mustard greens, kale and other stuff for my iguanas. They really do produce a nice amount and they grow FAST!

Those are cute - but $150 is pricey - I'm sure a clever person could make something like that themselves.

I saw that, or something like it, at Bed Bath and Beyond. Take a 20% coupon in there and get some $$ off!

Ok, Carrie, I guess I'll take a few weeks of really cold weather and not have to deal with high taxes or sitting in traffic. The grass always seems greener on the other side of the fence.

I do have a fence around my vegetable garden, I let the chickens in late fall and let them have fun. My flower garden has to be revamped and replanted with chicken friendly plants. But, my chickens go into the neighbors' yards which gives my flower garden a break. Got some nice neighbors....well, except for one jerk.
