We have three new ducklings. They are 2 weeks old as of Wednesday. I've noticed one having trouble walking starting at about 10 days old, and another not quite as nimble a couple of days later. Is there a leg weakness syndrome in ducks? The three are Snowy Mallard, Cayuga, Magpie. The Snowy Mallard seems completely normal in her gait.

They were started on Manna Pro gamebird/showbird starter (24% protein), then I switched them to gamebird starter with 30% protein when I noticed the leg problem. This was the suggestion of the feed store owner.

Any suggestions would be great!

Thanks!

I am having the same issue with one of my pekins that is 3 weeks old, his right knee is swollen and he won't walk on it. I have been told that you want to lower the protein to about 15% after 2 weeks because the higher the protein the more rapid the growth which isn't good for their legs. I've added brewers yeast to his food and some poly-vi-sol to his water. So far no improvement but hopefully in the next couple of days he'll be ok.

It took a good week before we noticed a great improvement with the strength of the ducklings legs. Keep it up, hopefully you'll see improvement soon!

Thanks for the recommendations. I'll definitely try the brewer's yeast, and ponder what percentage protein to use.

Thanks
