Can chickens sense fear in a human?

Apparently so-that is why they say to never back down from a rooster that is trying to intimidate you-as long as he thinks he is intimidating you he will continue to try to flog/attack/back you down.

From my experiences, chickens are rather simple in their flock mentality. Those you can peck without reprisal are beneath you, those that peck back are often equal or above you. If you are scared of chickens, they will see you are beneath them and peck you on principle. If you respond to pecking by showing them how the world looks when they are upside down... well, they get the message. They are small and shaped like foot balls for a reason.
