Can anyone tell me, every once in awhile I get these eggs from my RIR hens that have red flecks also in the egg too. Now I know what a blood spot should look like and this picture isnt re

al good examplel but there might be 4-5 specks inside egg?

I get eggs like this also with the raised bumps. In my case the shell was not strong at all. One of my hens goes through a period of producing this type of egg then it clears up. My guess is genetics aren't the greatest in this hen.

I have a hen (I am 99% sure it's my SLW) that lays eggs with a variety of paint jobs. Most days are light brown/tan with a white spray painted look. Other days they have dark speckles.

She had me fooled that all 5 of my girls were laying until my late bloomer EE popped out a green egg.

I have eggs that are speckled. At first I thought it was the coloring of the egg, but after scrubbing them with a soft brush when washing it all came off. It was dried blood spots. Ummm. But I get all kinds of eggs, wrinkly eggs, some that are warped in one small area (these are very thin shelled), and big bumps that looks like growths, and tiny bumps. I think that if we gave birth every day like these girls do our system would throw out a bad one every now and then. I still eat all the eggs. Never had a problem with them yet.

SO GLAD I found this thread! I have a RIR that lays eggs exactly how you all described them here! I thought these eggs were from an Araucana that was just getting older. But I watched the RIR lay this egg. I was so surprised. I have a tray of oyster shells out there to eat when they want. The shell is getting stronger, but the wrinkles and bumps are still there. Sometimes it looks like she threw paint on it! ha ha

I feel better now.... :)

My Red Sex Link is the same [Red Star]

She lays very large eggs and they are always raised on the outside with spots

i have noticed though that there is always ever only one raised spot/bump on it not more than that ever
