AHH! How to keep the chickens from eating my hostas?

I have the same problem and now that it isn't raining I just have nubs.
They don't seem to eat the blue ones though.

mine devastated all my hostas! and 1 digitalis! (foxglove) I really thought I would have dead chickens after they ate that one as digitalis is what the medical community derived the heart drug from and it will kill a small child or pet if ingested...but no harm came to my hens? hmmm interesting...

Mine are killing my solid green hosta also. They are not touching the variegated ones though. May pour some white paint on my green ones to see if I can fool them.

I'm going to have no hostas this year apparently.

is there any way at all to keep them from eating them short of locking them up and not letting them out ever? I dont want to do that... or do I just suck it up and realize I'll never have hostas again.
I love that my "girls" all free range...there is no off limits areas for them except the vegetable garden-even my flower beds are open to them- mostly-any plants/flowers that i really enjoy, i place a wire cage made of cattle fencing around to prevent destruction from my girls. Its a win win for us.

i was wondering if sprinkling cayenne pepper around them or wolf urine would keep the hens away. Anyone know?
