Merging the chickens

Well last night I put the chicks in with the chickens for the night. I figured it was good timing, because the alpha hen is still injured and cant really chase anything to peck it. There were no problems, and the chicks even went right into the coop to lay their eggs!

Today I went out to do the morning care and there were no loose feathers, no bleeding combs, no problems of any kind! When I opened the door to the yard they still wander in pairs, but they no longer seem worried about staying on opposite sides of the yard. Some of the chicks might get chased off of some good food, but they still are getting theirs and I haven't seen anymore of the comb pecking going on at all.

Thanks again for the help!

Sorry of the same issue. Mine have semi merged but keep going back to the little temp Chick house to roost.do I just close it and they will roost in the big house? They all lay in the big house. I need them roosting together by winter.in Mississippi that means I still have a couple months even if the spider lilies popped up this weekend.

I use a tractor coop to grow out mine. Last years batch was doing as yours, laying in the coop and sleeping in the tractor. One night I just put them in the coop and took away the tractor and put it out of sight. I did confine them to the run for a few days to make sure they went into the coop at night. I would imagine that you could do the same with the temporary coop.
