Here is an old picture of a nice typed male.I realize I need to get some good pictures of some I have as most pictures I have are not clear.

Dan, I was looking through some old poultry presses and I didn't realize you used to be the secretary of the buff minorca club. Do you have any material or readings from that club still? What was the history of it?

Hi David,I did save the old Buff Minorca club newsletters.Corresponding with Cy Lewis (he was still living ) was a thrill as he was one of the top Buff Minorca breeders in their hey day and provided me with lots of good history and breeding advice.I was also lucky enough to talk with Ed Schmidt's son William Schmidt,who sent me a 1921 International Buff Minorca club yearbook.I wished he could have found one of his dads catalogs.Ed.F Schmidt was tops.I have never been able to find the 3rd edition of Minorcas of Every Comb and Color,by Geo.Northrup ,it was printed by Inland Poultry Journal about 1923 and was still being sold by Poultry Tribune,American Poultry Advocate and Inland Poultry Journal up to 1927.This edition had Buff Minorca pictures and breeding articles that the 2nd edition (1907)did not have. I bred Buff Minorcas largefowl all during the 1970,s and 1980's,as well as Buff Leghorn largefowl .I still have the large Buff Leghorns today.

I just found an article yesterday on Minorcas ,1922 with an account of Buff Minorca origin in the New York state.George Northrup lived in NY state and I have a copy of "Minorcas of Every Comb and Color" 1907,2nd edition.I also have the first editiion in 1897 called " All Minorcas".I hope that late this fall I can get out my books 2nd edition SPANISH BREEDS.It will include Northrups Minorca book.Also my " BUFF COLORATION" book is in the same boat. It is odd that I have only three old Black Minorca club yearbooks,no Black Minorca breeder catalogs,no Buff Minorca breeder catalogs,no other Buff Minorca club yearbooks,no Buff Leghorn breeder catalogs or Buff Leghorn Club yearbooks. If you know of any,let me know.I will buy them if for sale,or pay for coping/scanning of any of these items. P.S. I'll keep my eyes out for that book. Sometimes I can find old books easy, others not. Could you PM or email me if you would sell me photo copies of the minorca info you have available. I am working with the single comb blacks and buffs, and located a breeder of rose comb whites and am trying to get a start off of him. I already bought your first book while I was overseas (you sent it to my wife). How long have you raised the blacks? The only male I have left is not all that great. I decided to cull all my others that were larger and typier because for some reason they all had side sprigs. I think I'll have to do an outcross this year to another strain this year.

Hi David.What are your Buffs Minorcas like? I am working with Tom Roebuck on his Buff Minorcas.I have had the Blacks off an on since the 1970's.I have been working on the Lavender Minorcas for a good eight years,starting with a 1 pound bantam female lavender OEG bantam.I have been going back to Black Minorcas for size and type.I did raise a dozen pure SC Blacks from a pair I got from Brad Buttram in Mo.I also had Tom Roebuck do some AI with a small Lavender male and one of his Black Minorca females (I think they were Adrain Radamachers)? I will have to see what pictures are in my Minorca folders. Dan H.

Hope somebody is out there... I have three young black Minorca roosters and need to decide which one to keep. I am not breeding for showing, this is just backyard chicken stuff. One has all his tail feathers completely intact. The other two are missing quite a few feathers. Assume he is the most aggressive (or quick?). One of the other two has a really distinctive large comb (almost twice the size as the other two although they are all the same age - about 9 weeks - and are all males). The one with the larger comb likes to snuggle up to the females on the perch. He seems larger in size than the others.
Any suggestions? I would appreciate your input as I really don't have a clue
