My new brooder house

I have been brooding chicks in my house for several years, going from living room to second bedroom to laundry room. I FINALLY have a brooder room to get the birds out of my house! I still have to move the current residents outside in their cages, but here is what we had to start with
a 11'x13' "labor house" used to be where the hired hand lived WAYYY back when. roof was wood shingled, and had 2 windows and a chimney that leaked terrible.

Hubby gutted it completely, so that it was just roof trusses and frame walls.
These are some not so great pics of the inside. We have used it for everything from chickens to turkeys to sick house for goats or birthing house for goats.
But this give you a rough idea of the condition of the house before- old drywall walls with MANY holes through out.





This is the now
New concrete siding, new metal roof, metal deadbolt door, with opening window


all new wiring and insulation, new back window for cross ventalation, new breaker box, one breaker for plug ins, one for lights.

new laminate countertop, new 1 solid piece of vinyl flooring. New drywall, tape, textured and painted



all wood structure hubby built, the counter will be for my 4 incubators

dog crates will go in one corner of room they are double stacked on wheels for easy cleaning around it- currently in laundry room with last of babies

next to that will go a 3 tier rabbit cage, sorry, no pic. Then this unit which can hold 8 bantams and 2 large fowl in show cages for show conditioning.



brooders are 2' x 8' with dividers to make each pen 2'x2' or all open as needed, 2 levels. dividers removable






finished product- bottom also holds 3 large fowl show cages total birds can hold, 16 bantams 5 large fowl and countless chicks in the roll about brooders and 3 tier cage, and 4 incubators.

WOW I love it and am very impressed!

Holy cow - I mean holy chickens! Very impressive! Either you are very spoiled or your DH wanted the chickens out of the house!!!

Ooooo.... very nice. I want one! My brooders have to make do with my carport.

I know now this post is in the 6 year old range but how do you like your setup now that you have had several years of use. Any pros? Cons? I'm thinking of building some small breeding pens to hold a single bantam per section and like the removable divider idea. Just curious if over the years you did any changes. I found this post via pints rest of all places.

I put three 10x10 kennels together in an L shape, that way I can divide it when needed. I put 3 coops inside and a roof over it . The girls ignore the coops for sleeping preferring the rafters so I made runners , 2nd pic. It's their own little world up there with lots of room. Right now I have 22 hens & 2 roos.

I absolutely LOVE my brooder house set up. In fact I loved it so much that instead of using the show cages on the left side of the building, (I actually hated those) I had him finish putting in all built in pens like he had on the right side. So now the whole building is homemade built ins. I brood all my chicks in there after a few weeks, with sweeter heaters, but I also have a small infared heater that keeps it a solid temp all winter. I use a window a/c unit in the summer when I need to. The only changes we made to the original pen is to use enamel paint so it was easier to wash, and 2x2 wood all the way around the bottoms of the pens so wood shavings did not fall out so much.
