Anyone have any ideas for how to get a nest out from under a deck that was only a foot of the ground??

I have heard many good ideas, but since this is only a foot off the ground I'd have to crawl under there to get at the nest and would have no way to get away. The hornets are getting very aggressive and we cannot use our front deck or door at all!

Help!

I'd soak it down at night with Hornet spray-the kind in the can that sprays up to 27 feet. Use the entire can and leave the nest alone. At first frost take the nest down.

They have a tendency to be more reluctant to attack after dark. But they can be attracted to your light so if you go under there don't go far. If they are getting that bad you can hire somebody with a bee suit to get them out of there.

No they won't night is best, My DW just found a huge canalope sized nest in my big main layer coop up in the rafters, it's huge with at least 200 wasp's, I plan to go in tonight when the birds are roosting and spray them down, then pick them all up so the birds don't eat them and run the risk of getting sick from eating the pestiside. Or put a feed sack over it and cut it down, tie off the sack and stomp it like crazy LOL more fun I think.

Could you drill into it from the top? Then QUICKLY replace the drill bit with the hornet spray? I would definitely do it at night so they will still stay in the nest even though they are agitated. I wouldn't go crawling under there no matter what time of day it is!!

We had to do this once in a bathroom ceiling. The only way to get to it safely was to drill into it. We used the straw from the WD40 and put it on the hornet spray with a towel around the the rest of the hole and drained the whole can into the nest. The sound was deafening as the whole nest sounded angry, but nothing came out and within five minutes all was quiet.

I have the exact same problem!!! My neighbor suggested I unscrew the board they have there nest under , turn it over and run like heck! That seems like an awful lot of work. I can see one side of the nest but the rest of it I can't get to unless i attempt to crawl under the deck. Not sure I would fit or be able to escape quickly.

What about using a hanger between the boards and trying to knock the nest down at night. Still risky!

I agree with the spray and do it at night. Or else you can get a fire going, unscrew the board and throw it on the fire. And run- just in case. Then buy a new board. More work though.

We had a basket-ball sized one up in the eve of the barn- bald faced hornets. We put an oily rag on the end of a 20ft pole and set it on fire after dark. It was sooooo gross! All the larvea were dropping on the ground.

Don't know if hiring an exterminator would help. Saw one at a house across the street once investigating something. Few minutes later, we hear, "HORNETS!!!" and see the guy running to his truck. Comes back in what looks like a hazmat suit.

Can we say, "overkill?"
