how can i get rid of coyotes

Problem is they usually come out in the dark.
I have 3 large dogs, which bark at them but they are too far away to see
my chicken run has high fencing and electrical fencing around it. And that area is fenced with pasture type fencing
seems they are getting the chickens in early morning, as they are closed inside the coop at night.
they also got my neighbirs cat 2 nights ago.

I'd much rather shoot them for humane purposes, but even when I stay up at night and watch from inside or outside the ******** don't show up!
they finally got my favorite hen. I need to start killing another way.
I also have a horse I leave at pasture during the night around the run....no help
 
A customer at my local feed and seed said that he uses the following method. He is a commercial chicken grower. His method was described as follows. First put out several varmint traps around the chicken houses and trap varmint. Then put the varmint carcass's in an area that a safe rifle shots can dispatched to the attracted coyotes. Add a wireless motion detector and a spot light on a separate switch. The motion detector beeps in the house, spot light is turned on, couple less 'yote. When asked what he did with the carcass's He responded that the vultures and buzzards need to eat also. My only data is what this man said, before using this method I would check the local regulations.
 
People have been trying to exterminate coyotes since settlers first came to North America and we've done a horrible job at it. It may be more effective to predator proof than exterminate.... Our neighbors shoot and trap coyotes all the time and we still have a very healthy population around here. Even after the government issued a bounty on coyotes and there was a major cull it still only made a difference in the population for a couple of years. I'm not saying don't bother, go after the worst offenders, but you'll probably have to find away to make your animals unavailable to them. Take away the opportunity and the opportunist will leave.
