Wildlife (Deer) Corn vs/Corn for Chickens, Ducks, Geese, Farm Animals

Ok, so about these peas...........chickens can eat raw peas? Is this correct? You mean like bag of peas on the grocery store shelf?

Yes they can eat them, and you can even plant peas from the grocery store

I am talking about dried field peas, but yes they can eat grocery store peas (frozen) or dried split peas. They are all the same thing more or less.

The kind I get says "aflatoxin free! less than 0.02ppb" or something along those lines. Seems safe enough for a treat.
I sure don't read that kind of guarantee on my feed sacks, who knows what they are putting in Layena these days.....would be nice if they were up as up front about it as the wildlife feed makers are

Also there is no "ppb" guarantee on the corn, cracked corn, or "chicken scratch" (that is mostly cracked corn) that comes from TSC either. Ignorance is bliss I guess, but if it says on the front of the bag that's supposed to be pure enough to be called "aflatoxin free" then that's good enough for me.

ETA: If you want to get away from corn, last year I got a good deal on 50# of BOSS at the after-Thanksgiving sale at TSC so I threw them that for treats instead of corn stuffs.

Rebelcowboy has the right of it.

Our local grocery stores sell "Wild Life Corn", "Deer Corn". This corn is about $3.00 cheaper than regular corn (for farm animals) that you find in the local feed stores. On the bag, it says that this deer corn should not be fed to chickens, ducks, geese or other farm animals but it doesn't say why.

It is almost certain that the corn has too high a mycotoxin content to be safe with poultry. They are very susceptible to it.

Even if it is labeled for animal feed you'd be well served to examine it before feeding. I use whole corn with my birds and it is labeled as general purpose animal feed which means it is supposed to have been tested for mycotoxin content. Every once in a while I get a back with too many dark kernels and back it goes.
