There are two popular types of "Production Red" one is a R.I. Red bred solely for egg production and selectively bred solely from the R.I. Red.
The other type "Production Red" is a cross of a R.I. Red and a Leghorn.

Keep in mind that the New Hampshire was also bred solely from the R.I. Red with no other outside blood added.

7L Farm,

Heritage Red are only available from a breeder period. If you get R.I. Red's from a hatchery then it is a "Production Red".
