Heritage or Heriloom Wooden Incubators

I have a huge old humidaire hatcher that I'm fixing up for spring hatching, and a tiny humidaire that is a more recent model that will be dedicated to hatching Dewlap Toulouse.

The quality compared to sportsman in workmanship is incredible. LOVE them.

You may have seen this one since I'm in central Kansas. The friend who gave it to me lives on the farm that's been in his family for generations as do we. He was cleaning out a shed that he was tearing down and knowing how I am with my chickens he called and said he had an old incubator that he was junking unless I wanted it. I said sure I'll take it....I was thinking along the lines of something much smaller and then he drove in with this in the back of his pickup!! It weighs a ton and we had to use the bale forks to get it lifted and moved into the barn.

Wouldn't that be funny if I've seen that actual machine! I have been to a lot of farms in that area and seen so many that had similar machines, always out in the barns. I grew up outside of Russell, but left there over 20 years ago and no longer have family in that area. I sometimes miss it horribly!

I'm further south than that.......I love that area around Hays and Russell and further west. I know a lot of people think it's just an open barren area, but I love it. There's an old stone house along I70 that has been setting empty forever and I always thought it would be neat to get my hands on it and fix it up....unfortunately I can't just pick up our farm and move it that easily.

I would add that it is most likely built in 1947 but the "2" could be a model number as they have different size boxes hence "models." It might be the month although it would be labor intensive to make the "2" if they only made a few per month then had to change the press template.

For sale: Lehy Wooden Incubator will be for sale and on display at the Poultry Show in Pensacola Florida March 31st. I have decided to scale down on my hatching of water fowl and no longer need it. I have had it for five years and it works like a charm. Lehy made these about 30 years ago under their name as well as Sears and Roebuck and Montgomery Wards. The secret to this highly successful hatching incubator is the Red Wood boards which breath and maintain humidity to such a great degree and that is why top call duck waterfowl breeders love to use them. For general poultry it can't be beat. The eggs are hand turned so no automatic turners in these models. If you had this incubator made today it would cost at least $1,500. in today's money. I am asking $375 first come first serve. No shipping as it is too much trouble and very costly by freight truck to ship.
