good meat chicken

When it warms up I'll be selling eggs from my meaties and Dels. I have a waiting list for the Cuckoos as they lay a dark egg. My Del rooster @ 7months weighs over 9Lbs hoping he finishes out at 10.

What do you mean they kept smashing each other? I have lost a few Cornish X but not from smashing each other. The only reason I can think of that they were smashing each other is if they were piling up on each other because they were cold. Sometimes if they are not used to the dark they will pile up on each other. A small light will prevent this. But these behaviors are not limited to the Cornish X.

I raise my Cornish X 25 at a time in a well ventilated 12 X 12 box stall bedded in shavings. I add shavings as necessary and I do not clean out the stall until after the birds are gone. I do not have trouble with odors or dirty birds with this system. Personally, I love the Cornish X. I get a lot of meat in a short period of time with a minimum of labor and I do not find them difficult to process.

The only thing I can think of is they are laying on each other. They weren't cold, I had two heat lamps on them and with the heat lamp they had light. Where do you get your Cornish? We put them outside a few day's ago when it was still warm and they would not move around much like the other chicken's. There's nothing wrong with them I don't think they are that bright.

You are right. They aren't very bright and they sure do not act like other chickens. I like them though. I think they are funny. I usually get mine from McMurray. I get the BBQ Special (NOT the Frying Pan Special). I also got some from Cackle once. I thought I would try Welp next time because of their customer service. I feel like I owe them. They went above and beyond for me last year.

Hello all, I'm new to this forum even though I have been reading post for a few years. I was needing info. on a possible cross of a Australorp roo with a cornish X hen. What will the chicks look like? Would it create a possible sex link? Also what will the chicks look like from a RIR roo with a cornish X hen. I know many have posted that cornish X do not do well overall. I have had mine for 2 years and my hens lay okay. The rosster are quite funny and very calm and friendly. I want to have a chicken with a good weight ratio that lays brown eggs. I have spoke to my DAD who is a farm/rancher and he said the results might be good. Who knows. Any feed back is welcome.

RAREROO tried making sex-links with Cornish X hens, and just as he thought, it didn't work. He tried crossing them with several different breeds of roosters, and all of the chicks hatched out white.

"Cornish X" = special strain of White Rock crossed with special strain of White Cornish. White Rocks usually don't have the right genetics for making sex-links. An Australorp roo crossed with Cornish X hen will never make sex-link chicks. To make red sex-links you need a red or buff rooster and silver hens.

In case you haven't seen it, here's a link to the best sex-link spot on the web: https://www.backyardchickens.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=261208

No
matter what you breed your Cornish X hens to, their chicks will be white. The chicks may have a little bit of color to them, but will be mostly (if not solid) white.

I've never done it myself, but I've heard of several people who kept Cornish X hens and bred them to their dual-purpose breed roosters. They said that the males made good free range broilers and the pullets made good layers.
