One pipped on day 18, but never got any further. when I opened the egg the chick was fully developed, but died. It's day 23 now & not a peep out of the rest. Can anyone tell me if there is still hope for the other 9 eggs? This is our first time incubating eggs.

Don't give up hope.. If you want, you can go into the bathroom with the incubator and get it really steamy in there so you don't lose any humidity when you open the bator.. You can then candle them and see if they are still viable... There have been plenty of people that have gone almost a week after the hatch due date.. There was one in the last few days that the chick hatched on day 27! If you had low temps at any point in the incubation, it can slow the hatch down....

Pretty sure all are gone. 3 had not developed at all. 6 are completely dark except for clear spot about the size of a quarter. No movement though. And clear spot was too uniform ( if that makes sense. Not sure how to desribed it).

Does anyone know of good place in north GA to get baby chicks? My boys are very upset about the eggs, so I thought I could find some baby chicks for sale instead. We already had brooder & everything ready for any chicks that hatched. Sooooo sad! :

So Sorry!!! There are several members in North Georgia.. You can post in the Georgia thread to see if anyone might have some chicks.. Or post a wanted ad in the Wanted to Buy section of BYC..

If the clear spot is at the fat end of the egg then wait for a 2 more days. If the spot is anywhere else, I would throw them all away.

One more option while you are checking your eggs. Pay CLOSE attention to the space between the air sac, and the chick. Watch it for a couple of minutes.. you, at times, will see the baby moving but just ever so slightly. While you do this rotate the egg so that you can view the air sac from several different views.

On your dead chick... was the yoke sac absorbed?

The clear spot is at the fat end of the egg. So I decided to leave them until day 26 & see what happens.

After that I may break one open to see if I can tell what went wrong.
