I was just looking at the pool thinking it's been awhile...and going to be a long time yet.Yeah I'm home for....well who knows they are saying accumulating snow again on Monday..so I translate that to be more snow dumped on top of this snow-we had a lot here never got that leading rain just snow

Thankfully my sweet husband took care of my birdies outside this morning and so sweetly thawed out my frost free that I left the hose attached to..and the water on all night-had it off then saw an empty dish..I remembered it late last night but by then it was frozen so why run out in pj's and freeze.
OK more pics...couldn't resist

Nice slick black ice covering every roadway and surface this morning! My 9 year old son is having a friend over and they are playing a video game an arguing (the friend is a girl), the baby is sick, and I have to write 4 essays for school but none of my books are here. *sigh* I am glad today that I have no chickens to take care of (blasphemy, I know!).

I just figured out I don't have any Girl Scout stuff in the 5th so I'm going to try to go to the show in GA...I NEED a few more real nice chickens

Darn Sam sat under the heat lamp and singed off all of his back feathers so can't take anything to the show...he's such a little brat at times.

it was nice in morning it was just misty with rain it was not to hard to turn on wipers except for every ten minutes. i went to town which is 45 minutes away. got back around 2 at 3 30 it was finely snow i went and feed the chickens their treats and they refused to go outside due the cold. so they got lock up then. when i open the door to go out we have 1/2 inch of snow and under it ice, so i slide back to the house,
we got 2inch of snow. total
it got down to 6 and this morning i open the chicken door when it hit 17.they start to line up to go out.the frist roo n then the second roo then BO and leghorn, ect they only took 3 step out and ran back in. i was bend down when i heard the noise . come guys are u ""chickens"" to go out in that snow then i started laugh. dur you are chickens but i did get 6eggs today, it is not going over 32 today and back down 16 and should get more snow sunday .

Funny you said this Just today I wired hardwire cloth on all heat bulbs to prevent this from happening. I will feel better because Judy K had a lamb break off at the stem and I was worried about the same thing. Also I noticed they will strech up and bump the bulbs so the hardwire cloth will kill 2 birds with one stone. Well it will prevent 2 potential accidents from happening. Not sure I like the 2 birds with one stone saying.

Holly I am also planning on the attending the Dalton and Newnan shows hope we run into one another. I may take Edward and Gaga to Dalton but not taking any birds to Newnan. Good luck if you do end up showing. Who can go to a show and not come home with something?

That would just be crazy!

Lockdown on the 24th for my guys. Keep your fingers crossed pretty sure these eggs had a rough trip here, and I really need them for the fall project I have planned.

Hey reading everyone's posts makes me SMILE!!!

that's a good idea to put the wire around the heat lamp, post a pic I'd like to see how you did it 'SimplySplendidSilkies'

Holly - I'm candling Saturday night - OH can't wait!!! it will be exactly a week. I have 10 in there right now, so we'll see. Your pic of the beach is KILLING me ... I lived in Clearwater fla for 36 years and really loved those winters (*lack of them that is) so I'm trying to appreciate this cold, icy, snowing living but when I go out to feed the animals and all the water buckets are froze I wonder 'how do people/animals live like this'? - LOL

Driving home last night was horrible - I don't ever want to do that again. Soooo I worked from home today , didn't want to chance driving on ice this morning. Better to be safe *smile*. then I took a bunch of pictures of all the animals in the snow because the sun was shining was wonderfully. One of my SLW chicks is molting I noticed, for some reason none of the pictures I took came out - gotta figure this camera out hmmmm.

Well stay toasty warm inside all !!!!

Well Holly, your beach picture cinched it. I took out the small grill, put it on the front sidewalk, and oh yes, I grilled dinner outside. Neighbors were slowing down as they drove by and saw the flames. ("Oh geez, what's she up to this time??") OK, I will say that meat needs to cook a little longer when it's 20 than when it's 80 outside (ya think??) . . . but holy moly did it taste great! . . . Marinated Australian lamb chops with a balsamic reduction, roasted rosemary potatoes, and a nice cold beer. Mmmmm, just like summer . . . if I squint really hard it even looks like the beach out front . . .

We are cooking out tomorrow or Sunday.Paul cooks out all winter and since he left at 5am on my birthday and got home at 12:30 the following morning we decided to cook out this weekend-I have no idea what it will be but I'm not cooking so I don't care.Yeah that's that real white sand out there nice deep white sand and ocean breezes
Shelly that pic is from the Outer Banks NC my home away from home.I grew up in Pinellas Park in the winters-FL is too crowded for my taste give me an open beach where you can drive to the ocean edge prop up the back of the 4x4 and start fishing and camp under the light of the lighthouse with no electric and running water cold showers ...gosh I miss those days when we could do that-come on lets start building houses again and I mean other than chicken houses

I need to get my schedule straight with Girl Scouts before I can figure out some dates that will work for a Cookeville meet up...then this weather I do know I don't want it to be the same weekend as the M'Boro area meet up and it needs to be before May.I'm open to any ideas

OMG i'm coming over your house next time you grill ... sounds like you are an amazing cook *drooling here* . LOL the snow kinda looks like sugar sand at Clearwater beach fla

Holly - that's exactly why I left Pinellas County FLA ... it is so overcrowded and now the people are rude and irritated all the time. So I looked long and hard for a peacefull small country town where 'development' wouldn't happen for a long long long time, that's exactly what I found out here in Kempville/Pleasant Shade. But give me a secluded beach, lighthouse and warm sun and i'm absolutely in heaven!

today is beautiful though ... I woke up late at 9am and did my feeding chores and didn't want to come back into the house. The sun is shining so nice and I just loved walking around in the sparkling snow, surrounding by chickens, horses, donkeys , goats and the neighbors four cows ... not a car or person in sight. I love living in the middle of 'no where' *smile*
