So as you guys know, i have muscovies Welsh Harlequins and a pekin, i know the whole thing with mule ducks being unfertile, but what makes them boy or girl, or whats the whole thing about that, and what do you think the offspring would look like? would they be loud? would they have the carnucle? like for the color, i have black and white muscovies and welsh harlequins do would they be white? white with black? or what? because the only mules ive seen have been like brown and thats about it!! oh and i also made this topic to post mule duck pictures! and one more question~would the mules be good layers and incubators? of course of another ducks eggs because they are unfertile, but would they lay good? Oh wait one other thing how do you get eggs under a hen? like how do you make them broody? THANKS! c;

Broody Hen:

The hen has to go broody herself, then you steal her eggs and replace them with duck eggs.

Mule Ducks are not always steril. Its not a for sure thing. Ther are documented cases that Mules, a cross between horse and donkey, can actually be fertile. NOt all hybrirds are steril. SO you might actually get fertile Mule Duck eggs.

Docs on fertile mules, This is on a female mule...

Just like any other duck! The only difference, is that they cannot produce viable sperm/eggs.

Going broody is a hormonal thing. You cannot "make" a hen become broody...it just happens, regardless of if they are sitting on eggs or not. Once they are sitting however (sometimes on an empty nest), you can slowly and gently slip and egg (or many) under her while she is asleep at night.

Why dont you do what i do when I need a question answered...use the Custom Search button up in the top right corner and keep changing the wording untill you get your answer. I always do it and get my answers quickly. Saves you asking the same question over and over

I know about the genitals, and stuff, but i ment like male muscovey bred to female and female muscovey bred to male mallard derived, but i found it on the custom search! so thanks...now i just wonder what they would look like! c:

Now my question is... How does this whole mule thing work?? How did we get so many different breeds of duck from the everyday mallard?? I am just not sure how every mule is sterile and never got a diffrent breed.... What makes a mule a mule? Is it a scovy/ domestic breed.. mandarian/ domestic breed or does it include like a pekin cayuga mix?
