The standard breed chicks are four weeks old and the D'Uccle bantams are over five weeks old now. The D'uccles, hatchery chicks, are not adventurous and are quite skittish, but all have been locked inside until today because of snow, so that could be part of it. The D'Uccles had to be pushed out of the coop while the Delaware pullet and the blue barred cockerel were all over the place, up and down the ramp, eating and scratching around and having a good time.

The blue barred boy is 1/2 Delaware, 1/4 Barred Rock and 1/4 Blue Ameraucana and is in need of a home, hint, hint....The Delaware pullet is named Tasha and will be staying.

These D'Uccles are going to have to show me that they aren't completely neurotic nutcases soon. I'm not used to skittish chicks, but then again, most every bird I have was hatched here, not shipped, so they have a calmer start in life anyway. The Delawares always stand out as fearless and super-friendly and the BRs and the BR or Del crosses are also really fun babies.

Hey, you! I had a broody who needed more kids, so ran down to the feed store that gets chicks year-round and picked some from the bantam bin. I don't want to spend money hatching them if it turns out I don't like them--not thrilled with feather footed birds, generally. I will be hatching porcelain D'Anvers in March from Boggy Bottom Bantams, though.

D'Uccles are six weeks and the Del and Del cross chicks are almost five weeks old now. They were able to go out today till the wind began gusting too much. Nugget is in her element as a mama, as always.

Cute pictures! Cyn, this was at the top of the baby chicks page on my browser. But it hasn't been replied for in two days...?
