I got my first sheep! I think one ewe is about to lamb!!! help!

I got my first sheep today. I got 5 ewes they are mostly katahdin and i think that a couple may have a little st croix or barbados in them. They guy i got them from said i may need to watch one of the ewes because he noticed her seperating herself from the others in the pasture. This will be her first lambing. He is almost sure that 4 of the 5 is bred. The 5th one is only 9 months old and i have her mother.

So i guess what i am asking is how am i going to know when this lamb is about to come? The ewe doesnt even have a big udder yet but i do notice her seperating from the others but eventually she rejoins them.
I told the guy it may be a while because her utter isnt very big but he said that isnt a very good way to tell. He just had 2 ewes he didnt even know were pregnant have lambs last night. Both of them didnt have big udders they were about the same size as normal.

I looked at her vulva but i dont know what i am looking for. All the ewes vulvas look fleshy and somewhat swollen. I am a newbie and like i said i just got these sheep today but i want to be prepared when the baby comes especially if there is any complications.

if your really concerned and unsure just put her in a seperate small area,like a box stall and let her do her thing,,most times they are fine and dont need help..if you think she needs help you will need to call a vet beings you havent any experience lambing..sheep can hide their labor pretty well.

By being prepared, do you mean placing her in a lambing jug? I would just watch and wait and put her and her lamb in the pen when it arrives. It's much too hard to determine when they are going to lamb by outward signs, as not all sheep exhibit the same signs.

When my Kat ewe lambed, the dogs alerted me to when her water broke and I was able to pen her. Just lucky it happened while I was home and that the dogs alerted me to a change...if that hadn't happened, I would have gone out and discovered she had managed to have that lamb without my help. Which is just what yours is likely to do.

Remember, when moving mama and lamb to the pen, keep the lamb in her sight at all times during the transfer....at least that is what all the books say to do.

Kats are pretty self-sufficient at lambing time and generally do just fine.

I dont have a lambing jug i just have a 3 sided barn. I have noticed she isnt at all interested in food. The sheep i have love the supplemental food they would kill themselves if they could get to a lot at one time. I set a bucket with a little supplemental food in it and the 4 ewes were racing to the bucket and sticking their heads in it. BUT the other ewe that i think is showing early labor signs just stood there by herself. I have also noticed her laying down a lot more than the other ewes and it looks like she is sleeping. Her eyes are closed but sometimes she moves her head back and forth. I got near her and heard her grunting a little bit she also grunted when she walked.
Does the grunting mean anything?

Are you sure she's not unwell? She doesn't look heavily pregnant at all.

If it's anything like a goat, the day you think they'll be born, wait another couple of weeks.

I thought she may have had worms but i looked at her eyes and they are clear and dont look wormy. I also looked at her poo and it didnt have worms in it.
