And how long does a opened bottle last?
Asking because i bought a bottle red wine for a pot roast recipe...
And it only calls for like 1/3 cup... (something like that)...
And i'm not really a red wine drinker... soo... can i keep the opened bottle in the fridge for more recipes later on? Or will it be okay on the counter? And will the wine go bad after opening if not used right away?

After using a small amount, we just put ours in the pantry with the rest of our stored goods. Never touched it since though, so I don't know how good it is anymore.

I keep mine in the fridge but it usually doesnt last long enough to go bad usually, LOL, but if you re-open it and smells or tastes off then it has gone bad so just pour it out. But I cater allot of parties and reds are not suppose to be refrigerated according to the "real" wine drinkers but mine has to be cold no matter what color it is I cannot drink warm wine yuck

SO according to "real" wine drinkers you NEVER refrigerate REDS.
Whites are served chilled but the reds are room temp (

It's true, red wines should not be refrigerated but their best storage temp is actually a bit below room temp -- more in the 55 degree range, and should be served slightly cool as well -- 55-65 degrees depending on the type. Our pantry is cool and dark so we keep ours in there. Be sure to store it on it's side.

No, it doesn't have to be kept in the refrigerator. You can park it on a convenient snow bank, or ice berg, as long as you bury it good.

If you want it to not turn into vinegar very soon, you have to refrigerate it. Cooking wine is denatured in some way, I don't think it goes bad so fast if it's not kept cold.

Good wine is a living, breathing thing. It lives a lot faster if it's warm and the air gets into it, with all the little yeasts and bugs that are in the air.

As an elderly French friend told me years ago, when I suggested we need not feel pressured to finish the entire bottle immediately, 'Opening a bottle of wine is a committment'.

LOL.

After you open it,..can it stay on the counter for a couple of weeks?

My french friend would say BAH to that. 'After wine is open, you must drink it'.

If you asked him about white wine, he probably would have just said, 'BAH!' (in other words only red is worth drinking)

We shlepped a bottle of red wine around the Adirondacks in July years ago. We found no degradation in the course of a month...LOL. May not be a valid test, though, it was COLD up there.

The old husband who is a past authority on wine, says; Keep white wine in Fridge, red wine on shelf.

That is for UNOPENED wine. Once open, it needs to go back in the fridge by the end of the evening. It will last several days, but not be nearly as good as when first opened.

If you are using it for cooking, unless it is a really super special meal where you want high quality ingredients, even in the wine being used, get a very inexpensive bottle.

Alternatively, serve the leftover wine with dinner
