We butchered meat birds yesterday and 2 of the 40 we did had a yellow fluid in the body when I cut them to clean them out. I am not sure what this was but Idisposed of both of them. I did not want to take a chance. Now I am thinking about the rest of the chickens that were in with them. Has anyone seen this?? If so please respond so I can learn from this. This was my first time butchering so I do not know much. Thanks.

Where in the body? Meat birds are very prone to ascities, which is a build up of fluid in the body, due to heart failure caused by their massive size. Now on if they are food worthy... if they looked "healhty" going in, they were probably fine to eat. Had they been allowed to live for another week or two, the symptoms of ascities may have become more apparent and not so good for the health of the bird. This is just my best guess though so it could very well be something else.

as soon as I cut above the butt area ( where you cut them to clean them out.) there was a yellow liquid as soon as I opened it up.I I disposed of it. I do not know anything about them so I wanted to be safe.
Thanks for the information. If you think of anything else it might be let me know.
