Hi I am Victor
I live on the Hilo side of Hawaii in a place called Fern Forest. If I had 7 poults (Chicks) I would keep them in the house or garage away from the chickens. I would put them in a pin and not let the turkeys and chicken run together. I have Araucana's? also they have feathers around there ankles. I think mine have a mix of something else, not sure. Mine are mostly Black with some red. I raised 75 turkey poults in Oklahoma. They were 2 years old when I move to California. I lived in California 25 years and in 2008 I move to Big Island Hawaii. I bought 3 acres and built a 3 bedroom 3 bath home. I live off grid on solar panels.

Turkeys are hard to raise from poults but it is fun. I kept my 75 poults inside in a cage until they were tame enough to follow me. They eventually thought I was there MOM. After they got big they would follow me around. They laid nice eggs. I had 25 hens that laid every other day. Not every day like chickens. the eggs are twice as big though. Turkey eggs are very mild, even milder than chicken eggs. I was told it is not usual to be able to collect turkey eggs. Very few people get turkey eggs. My hens thought I was a big Tom turkey. I would get down on my knees and they would come to me to pet them. I think they thought I made them fertile. Do not wear a red shirt if you tend to them red or orange is a sign to them that is a challenge of domination. If they do not recognized you as the head Tom they will spur you. They never attacked me but they did my Daughter and wife. They would chase my 7 year old Daughter up into a tree. We had to eat Meanie (that was Pam's name for her). I love Turkeys I think they were the most interesting birds I ever had. They will fly up on top a of a barn or a tall tree when they go to roost at sundown. I used to herd mine into a coop at sundown. I wish I had some poults. A friend and I want to raise some. We will need some friends who have Turkeys to trade to keep the gene pool good. Inter breeding is not good. You need Turkey from different locations. If you have questions call me
